OWGS Spring Meeting & AGM 2015
We had an enjoyable day at New Zealand yesterday with an interesting discussion at the AGM about the fixture list and, in particular, the format of the Spring Meeting
We will carry out a survey in due course to consult with the membership as to what (if any) type of meeting members might attend as the meeting has been poorly attended in recent years and the new format for this year didn’t attract a bigger field
The meeting was followed by an excellent lunch and a lovely afternoon’s golf when we were joined by 7 boys from the school and two dons
Dayrell McArthur won an informal singles stableford competition with 38 points, two clear of George Close-Brooks and Ben Twiney – special thanks to Ben for organising the day for us
John Sanders’ score (said by his marker to be 40 points) remains a mystery – it is rare that a player is disqualified for failing all four essentials for a valid score card but John’s card didn’t record his name or handicap, had not a single gross score and wasn’t signed by anyone!
I doubt that even the benevolent committee at Augusta would have turned a blind eye to this transgression of the rules but perhaps the Chairman-elect of The R&A’s Rules of Golf Committee might comment!
On a more serious note, Mark Coulman was nominated and elected as Captain of OWGS for 2016 – 17. As well as playing for Winchester in the Halford Hewitt and Grafton Morrish tournaments over the past thirty years, the Coulman family has a long and happy association with OWGS through his father, Peter, and his uncle, Mike and I am very pleased that he will be my successor
Best wishes to you all
