OWGS in the Bernard Darwin

A terrific effort by the OWGS team in the Bernard Darwin at Woking yesterday. The team was depleted with John Cruickshank and Dayrell McArthur unable to play through illness and injury respectively and Andrew Brownrigg & Michael Wauchope stepping in as fine, late replacements.

OWGS played Highgate in the morning; Tim R-R and Nyren S-M won 5/4, Brownrigg and Wauchope lost 3/2. Tindley and Hudson securing victory on the 19th. (the 4th hole)

As a result, OWGS progressed to play Repton – the holders in the  afternoon.

This time Tindley and Hudson lost 5/4. The other two matches saw OWGS both times 1 down on the 18th tee but on each occasion the Reptiles put balls in the pond to see Winchester level each match. Tim R-R and Nyren S-M halved both the 1st & 2nd extra holes in 3 (Keith Andrews holing from 30 ft for birdie at 1st, followed in by Nyren from 5ft). In the last match, Myles Elliot hits the green, Winchester on fringe in 2. Very good 8 footer by Brownrigg and Myles misses from 2ft to see the match go to the 20th. There Repton made a regulation 3 against a regulation 4 from OWGS.

In the meantime, the top match were both 8 ft from hole on 3rd so called a half. OWGS losing out in a very tightly fought match.

Tremendous effort by the team especially by from Brownrigg and Wauchope. Great fun and good golf played by all.
