OWGS at the Alba Trophy and Claudio Consul at the European Mid Amateur

Tom Hawkings and George Close-Brooks represented the OWs in the Alba Trophy on Saturday at Woking.

GCB writes – In the morning our play was a little patchy but benefited from an aggregate putting footage that must have exceeded 200 feet (Spieth-esque): an outrageous 70 footer at the 6th for birdie by Tom, followed by 25 foot for another birdie on the par three 7th and a similar length for par at the tricky 8th. Sadly we put in two double bogeys on 9 and 10  to dent the confidence before finishing birdie, par, par, birdie to secure a round of 75 which put us in fine fettle to enjoy lunch sitting in third place gross and in the lead in the handicap competition.

Sadly in the afternoon our somewhat scrappy play extended to the putting surface as well and our 81 left us on 156 gross (still well into the top half of the table) and 146 nett which earned us 2nd place and a very natty shoe bag.

Woking GC was in great condition and, as ever, the Club were a fantastic host.

Claudio Consul finished second in the European Mid Amateur event

Claudio scored a 142 (-2) to finish a shot behind the winner in the event in the Czech Republic. The competition had been shortened to 36 holes due to poor weather.
